A live album of jazz including some celebrities : here’s how to sharpen our curiosity.
Indeed, we find some BLUES BROTHERS of brass : Lou Marini and Tom Malone on
saxophone . These two are surrounded by equally awesome musicians like Mike
MEROLA , guitar, CLAPTON worshiper ; AL MACDOWELL, bass, keyboards Rob
Clores , Nick SAYA, drums. Add the percussion of Daniel SODOWNICK, old Steeley
Dan , Tony KADLECK we know now through his album chronicled in this issue, Lew
Soloff on trumpet, ex BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS where he also played sax for over 10
years. Andy Snitzer & Tom MALONE play the trombone . Thinking bands like
CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY , BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS or Catapilla and of
course BLUES BROTHERS.
The idea of reforming a CITY BOYS ALL STARS comes from guitarist Mike MEROLA
after more than 17 years of silence, after his last album LOOK OUT HERE WE COME
from 1994 .Mike MEROLA states in the introduction that this is The Break For The East
Shack and this is the reality, on the menu: jazz, funk, blues and soul , live and played
tight with cohesive training by 13 members: 10 musicians surrounded by three excellent
singers sharing the song , causing the band to play amazingly tight & together. We are
witnessing a sacred brewing of genres because it begins with a Testimony signed
version of Robbie ROBERTSON, the BAND , City Boys Blues, Funky Peaches come
from David BENNET COHEN accompanying COUNTRY JOE & THE FISH in
Woodstock, These titles are enhanced by the beautiful bluesy playing of MEROLA.
The trumpet of Lew Soloff roared in God Bless The Child by Billie Holliday. Angel
RISSOFF sings two of his own compositions. His voice is veteran soul / jazz; it has
nonetheless accompanied (among others) Chuck Berry , John LEE HOOKER, Robbin
FORD, THE NEW RASCALS.
The album Recorded by Cutting Crew NY. A super CD of jazz with good to strong
momentum where nothing is disposable.
